Department of Commerce, Amar Singh College organized a One-Day Seminar on “Financial Literacy” on 09-Nov-2017, aimed at creating awareness about safe and secure use of contemporary banking and insurance products and instill saving habits among the student fraternity.

Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Principal of the college and the Director of the Seminar, presented the welcome address and briefed the gathering about the importance of Financial Literacy in the present volatile and vulnerable financial environment. She highlighted the significance of modern financial products which have become an indispensable part of our day to day activities. In the inaugural speech, Honorable Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, and the Chief Guest on the occasion Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Javid Ahmed, stressed upon the importance of higher studies amongst faculty members to enhance their qualifications. He also sought cooperation from them to make the Cluster University Srinagar a success. The seminar included four sessions. The first session was delivered by Mr. Umar Amin (Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Amar Singh College) on “Banks and Modern Age Banking”. The Second Session was delivered by Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Lone (Faculty, Staff Training College, J&K Bank Ltd.) who deliberated on “Credit Products of J&K Bank Ltd.” designed and developed for students to pursue higher studies in different streams. The expert -of the next Session was Mr. Kaiser Ahmad Mir (Development Officer, LIC, Srinagar) who highlighted the importance and dire need of insurance in the present circumstances. He created awareness among the students about different types of insurance. And the final session was given by Mr. Mohd Younis Sofi (Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Amar Singh College)
