Department of English: is one of the founding departments of Amar Singh College. the English Department is the cornerstone of the humanities and Arts at Amar Singh College.Established as one of the first Departments of Amar Singh College in 1942, the Department of English has the honour of serving for more than 75 years with dedication.The aim of the English Department is to give the learners a sound understanding of English language. The learners would develop an understanding of English and other literature of their choice in the proper historical perspectives. A good knowledge of reading comprehension and writing skills would be a pre-requisite for the programme. The programme offers an opportunity to learners for higher studies in English. Besides offering the core courses available in other universities, it includes themes in some of the emerging areas of English that are expected to be extremely useful in the present scenario of economic liberalization and globalization.
The Department of English, as a national premiere institution with a global outlook, aspires to achieve excellence in the teaching-learning process with a special emphasis on English languages, literatures in English and translations, and multiple cultures.
The Department of English believes in advancing knowledge through innovative training, research and extension education in English in the fields literature, language sciences, research methodology, literary theory and interdisciplinary humanities that includes collaboration with institutions of national and international excellence. The long-term goals of the department encompass the development of language proficiency, literacy sense and the promotion of critical intercultural understanding of literatures, cultures and civilisations. The department is committed to providing students with opportunities for holistic development, creating a gender-sensitive, differently-abled friendly environment, and promoting a sense of social responsibility among students.
