Dear Students,

We are experiencing a rapid process of change in the administrative system and public policy in India and across the world which leads us to reconsider the importance of Public Administration as a subject with focus on teaching and research of administrative institutions, process and administrative issues. In this context, the focus on administration institutions and processes is the focus of the Department of Public Administration. The objective is to study administrative science from a scientific and interdisciplinary perspective. Public Administration investigates decision-making and policy-making processes in administrative systems. As public policies are realized by political power, public administrators cannot ignore the political system. Likewise, as public policies are implemented by public authorities, politicians cannot ignore public administrators. It is a discipline concerned with the organization of public institutions and public policy. In this sense, the basic objectives of Department of Public Administration are follows: to increase the students’ ability to understand and interpret the transformations taking place in administrative spheres and administrative institutions; to improve the administrative decision-making and effective organization communication skills, to comprehend policy cycle and various stages from policy formulation to policy evaluation; to understand working of civil service in policy and decision making sphere; to introduce the students’ community with the basics of Public Administration and acquaint them with the development of the Discipline; to expose their understanding to the public affairs; to develop the scientific understanding of Indian administrative system and to equip the learners with understanding the purpose of Government policies and programmes.
