Dear Students,
Amar Singh College is the second city college to establish Department of Media Studies and offer Media Studies as a core subject. In less than a year of its establishment, the space has been provided to the Department in the majestic Heritage Building of the campus which functions as Lab and dedicated classroom of the Department. The Lab has been set up with basic infrastructure and essential equipment is purchased. The process of augmentation of infrastructure is going on. The Department envisions becoming a centre of excellence in teaching of journalism and shaping and creating conscious and competent communicators.

Established in the year 2021, the College introduced Media Studies as a Core Subject at the UG level from the academic session 2021-22. Twenty five students were enrolled for the first academic session. With the introduction of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, Department offers BA (Honours) and Minor in Journalism & Mass Communication. In addition to these courses, Department also offers Skill Enhancement and Multidisciplinary courses for students of other disciplines as per the guidelines of NEP-20. The Department focuses on practical learning and workshops, seminars and special lectures are integral part of our curriculum. The thrust areas of teaching and training include Print Journalism, TV & Video Production, Photo Journalism, and Online Journalism. As part of the hands-on training and experiential learning, students cover events organised by the College within the campus on a rotational basis. This provides them with hands-on training and real life experience of reporting and writing. Skill Centre in Mass Communication and Multimedia Production: The College has been allotted a Skill Centre in Mass Communication and Multimedia Production. The process of its establishment is underway. One of the Skill Courses (identified by the Higher Education Department and the Hub College) will be rolled out in a phased manner after the necessary infrastructure is set up. These courses are in line with the guidelines of the NEP-2020.
