COURSE DESCRIPTION

Being as the first science college in the province, the Department of Physics was established with the inception of college in the year 1942. It was housed in the ground floor of the historical main building. The department comprised of a senior laboratory housed in main block with store, generator room and two separate rooms for teaching and non- teaching staff. In the adjacent block there were two junior laboratories with separate dark room facility. The department flourished with time and produced talented scientists and engineers. The department grew in stature and a separate full fledged block has been constructed. The two storey new block has two spacious laboratories, dark room, computer lab and separate rooms for teaching and non- teaching staff in its first floor and three class rooms with the main store for the storage of equipment in ground floor. The Department of Physics offers Three year under-graduate course. The Department has a separate  Computer lab which imparts programming FORTRAN, C & C++ to the students of all three years.

COURSE ADMISSION

There is a well developed Spectroscopic Laboratory which includes Laser and Iodine/ Hydrogen spectroscopy. Electronics/Solid state physics related experiments form an important component of the laboratory work. Hall Effect experiment has been introduced as well. Interference/ Diffraction are being studied using laser source. The department plans to conduct nuclear physics practicals in the college, however the proposal has been sent and is under active consideration. The students are given the opportunity to visit scientific laboratories like BARC, Gulmarag Laboratory; and the newly constructed Hydro-electric Power Stations. The Department produces physics graduates who seek admission in different universities of the country. Many members of the department are also engaged in research work.
